- about us -

For 39 years, Gibbons Construction has served the region as a commercial-industrial general contractor. Upon graduation from the University of Notre Dame, founder John B. Gibbons returned to Williamsport to serve as the third-generation owner of J.E. Gibbons/Williamsport Monument Co. But he soon identified a need for merit-shop general contractors in Lycoming County. He put together a small team of construction management professionals and founded Hinaman & Gibbons Inc. in 1967, focusing his time and energy on building this business. Renamed J.B. Gibbons Construction in 1970, the company brought architect John E. Kavelak onto the staff in 1974 to become a complete design-build services firm. In 1976, the company was awarded the project to construct the U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building in Williamsport, the first in a series of high-profile and important area projects. By the mid-‘90s, the firm’s annual receipts were regularly in excess of $5 million.

Mr. Gibbons passed away in January 1999, and Mr. Kavelak in 2004, but Gibbons Construction continues to operate in its founder’s vision; the company's lead team remains intact and committed to sustaining his legacy. In our challenge to sustain the company’s legacy of quality, timely and value-oriented construction, we were greatly aided by the loyalty of Gibbons Construction’s team of professionals. The company has continued to trade on its excellent reputation by keeping the focus on our hallmark: providing the highest level of construction supervision in the area. And in addition to projects for our extensive “repeat-business” client list, our portfolio has grown.
